Aftercare Tips: Getting the Best Results from Your Hydroseeding or Hydromulching
Once your site has been hydroseeded or hydromulched, proper aftercare is essential to ensure strong germination and long-lasting results.
Watering
First 2 Weeks: Light watering 2–3 times per day (especially in hot weather) to keep the mulch layer moist, not soggy.
Weeks 3–4: Reduce to once per day or every second day as the seedlings begin to take root.
Ongoing: Water deeply 2–3 times a week depending on rainfall and climate. Avoid overwatering.
Foot Traffic
Limit activity on newly treated areas for at least 4–6 weeks.
Walking, driving, or heavy machinery can damage seedlings or shift mulch before roots are established.
Mowing
Wait until grass reaches around 7–10cm high before mowing.
Ensure mower blades are sharp and never cut more than 1/3 of the grass height in a single mow.
Avoid mowing during wet conditions.
Fertilising
If required, a follow-up fertiliser application can be done 4–6 weeks after germination.
Use a balanced, slow-release fertiliser suitable for your grass species and soil type.
Avoid over-fertilising to prevent burning or runoff.
Weed Control
Some weed presence is normal in the early stages — they often sprout faster than grass.
Once the lawn thickens, weeds will naturally reduce.
Avoid herbicides in the first 8–12 weeks unless directed by a professional.
